A note from our founder —

For as long as I can remember, I used alcohol, excessive exercise, and a rigid diet to numb my feelings of being unworthy. After making the decision to get sober in college just after turning 21, my life and mental health have improved beyond what I thought was possible.

But it definitely wasn’t easy…

For years, I tried to heal on my own, but remained stuck in my vicious drinking cycle.

Drink  feel shameful promise myself I’ll stop drinking  drink again repeat.

It was exhausting. And to make things worse, I truly thought I was the only person my age going through this.

I knew that in order for this sobriety thing to stick, I needed to connect with others who understood what I was going through. I started sharing my story online and soon after, Steady Sunday was born!

Now, about the name…

As I was trying to think of a word that describes how I feel at this point in my recovery, I kept coming back to the word, steady. Steady means stable, balanced, rooted, secure, and dependable — all things that were the exact opposite of how I felt when I was drinking.

Here at Steady Sunday, we want to de-stigmatize sobriety, change the narrative around what it means to be “young and sober”, and release the black and white thinking surrounding recovery.

I encourage you to engage with this community in whatever way you feel is best for you at this time — whether that means reading the weekly newsletter, participating in meetings, or all of the above.

You can embody the Steady Sunday lifestyle whether or not you believe you have a “problem” with alcohol. If you are fed up with the way our society has normalized unhealthy alcohol use, welcome to the club! I’m so proud of you for being here.
